Following up on an earlier post, Reuters reports that Hungary’s largest Jewish group has asked to halt an Israeli-led effort to uncover the remains of Holocaust victims who were shot and thrown into the Danube river in Budapest during World War II. The group believes the search is needless and breaches the peace and dignity of the dead.
However, Orthodox and Hasidic Jews asked the Israeli volunteer group ZAKA, which undertook the search, to look for more remains. ZAKA plans to return to Budapest with divers in February.
