France Honors Auschwitz Museum Director
Times of Israel reports that France has awarded the director of the Auschwitz Museum, Piotr Cywinski, with the National Order of the Legion of Honour, the highest decoration awarded by the French state. The Order was established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte and retained by all later French governments and régimes.
The French Ambassador to Poland, Pierre Levy, said that Cywinski is a humanist “whose voice counts in France.”
Auschwitz is the most recognizable symbol and place of genocide in the world. More than 44 million people from all over the world have visited Auschwitz since 1945.
